Hola Todos!
I don't even know where to start...there is so much to say!
Let's start with some major differences and where I'm feeling the most culture shock:
1. There is NO snacking here...they eat 3 meals a day and nothing really in between! Breakfast is whenever you get up, lunch is at 2 and dinner is at 8 (every family is different but these are my host family's times).
2. There is no soap and rarely toilet paper in public bathrooms.
3. They are much more conservative about electricity...water and lights, which means no long shower/hot showers :(
4. You have to weigh your fruits and vegetables before you get to the checkout line...otherwise you will make people angry in line...I may or may not have done this.
5. Everything is closed on Sunday so don't plan on getting any shopping in.
6. They stay out until morning...coming home at 5AM is too early.
I am staying with a host family and they are in their 80s. Not what I was expecting at all but they are SO nice and cute and cook delicious food! I love them already. Sevilla is absolutely gorgeous...everywhere you go there is another stunning sight to see. I already have favorite places to go in the city :)
Classes start tomorrow..I am really excited to get into a routine and start planning trips!! Also, a girl in my program and I are looking into churches and youth groups together. I am really excited to see where God leads us and meet Spaniards along the way :) He is so good!
xoxo...more posts to come soon :)
I am really excited to come and visit you.
ReplyDeleteI miss you. Thank goodness for Skype :)
Sounds like your already having a blast!! Looking forward to hearing more and more about how God is using you in Spain! Miss you a ton!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI am happy you are having fun! I miss you! I can't wait to hear more about your trip!
ReplyDeleteWe need more pictures :) proof that you are in Spain, not just in the Caribbean for 4 months. Jking, hope you are having fun.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDelete1. There is TONS of snacking Boo. In the morning stop for a Napolitano de chocolate, aka a chocolate filled criossant, and definitely order a cafe con leche. It's basically espresso with sugar and milk, and it's divine.
Check the lunch room between classes or stop into a Museo del Jamon for a bocadillo or tapas and a beer when you get hungry.
2. I'm sure you already bought a travel hand sanitizer.
3. Since you have 80 year olds for your hosts, I'm sure they are just holding over from the Franco era, when power/water was scarce. Being stingy about utilities is a common practice among older Spaniards.
4. Hahahahaa
5. Sunday is for rest. Even you should know that!
6. Don't have too much calimocho! Don Simon + Coca-Cola = every 15 year old's Friday night.
Haha oh goodness I remember the snack thing, the restrooms (yuck), the no Sunday shopping, and I definitely did the fruit thing just like you! I forgot about that...probably would have been nice to share that with you. :)
ReplyDeleteSo great reading all these comments! I miss you all so much! Thanks for keeping up with my blog :)
